Hello there, Jordi here!

In UX we always need to play smarter than what we would play normally. For instance, is there a user that wants to delete the app, ok, it’s fine, it’s his decision? But let’s try to do something smart to get some profit from this action. How?

Well, we won’t make an unlimited path for the user to delete the app, but it is in our interest to take some time to profit from him.

Instead of letting the user delete their account easily, we will kindly provide them with a survey where they can answer some quick questions, so that they can improve our service.

We can ask the user why he decides to delete the app, if the user kindly responds to the survey, we will have valuable information that will help us improve the app. If we are smart, instead of making the user write a reason/reason, instead of introducing a field to fill in, we give them several options, the user will be forced to choose between one of them, basically because there is no effort in selecting three options. Multiple choice is much better than full filling field.

Obviously, there will be users who do not want to answer, it is respectable, so the user has an option that we provided that is called “skip”. But if we put the quick survey there, the probability that a user answers that question is high, and in this way, we get information or tips to improve our service for free.

It is important to take into consideration that it is not a survey, it’s something like “could you PLEASE tell me why you are uninstalling the application?” And without any problem, just be honest and direct with the user “we would like to improve our service”, after all, we are all people and we can make mistakes, and if they tell us what mistake we have made, the easier we will come up with a solution.

Finally, introduce the user to the last action, the confirmation screen, in the end, we are providing power and control to the user, think that the longer it takes to delete the app, the greater the probability that they will regret deleting it. Enter a small confirmation pop-up, in case he regrets it.

Remember, do not force the user to answer 24837 questions, just answer “Hey! We are sorry you are leaving our app, we want to improve our service, could you please answer to these questions”?. I’m sure there will be some users that will kindly respond to that.

Finally, provide the user with a confirmation screen where you show him complete information status about the completed action.
